A Terran vs. Protoss match can be an interesting one in Starcraft 2 for a few reasons. The Terran are generally weaker in the early stages and must be weary of a Protoss rush, but they also have a few tricks up their sleeve to help them pull out a win. The Protoss generally start stronger, but can lose their shields if the Terran get Ghosts early on to EMP them, leaving them very vulnerable.
1. Terran - How To Defend
As Terran, you'll want to play defensively early on since just a few key Protoss units can come in and virtually wipe you out, if played right. One example of this is an early Dark Templar that can one-shot your Marines - taking them out very easily. To defend your base, focus on building barracks and missiles. One of your goals will be to detect where a possible rush is coming from, if they do try to send units, so that you can react faster.
2. Hit 'Em Where It Hurts - What Is Effective Against Protoss
Protoss have a few weakness that we are going to expand on and take advantage of. One disadvantage is that Protoss take full damage from units and tend to be in close groups with one another. To maximize on this weakness, attack them with anything with splash damage. Splash damage will tend to take down Protoss units more quickly than average damage. One unit that you can use early on to take down the Protoss is the Firebat.
Tip: Midgame Strategy - Vultures
Vultures can be a very effective mid-game unit if used correctly. These units prove to be very effective against the Protoss when used in short, hit and run type attacks. Try not to just send them in and forget about them or they will get swarmed and destroyed. You want to have them do hit and run attacks against groups of units to be most effective.
3. Finish 'Em Off - Late game strategy - Air
In later game play, once you've got air units, you'll want to focus on building Wraiths. In air fighting, Wraiths are very powerful units against the Protoss. If the Protoss decide to use Arbiters against you, build Valkyries to counter them, and you shouldn't have any problems.
